Week 4: Concluding the Journey

It is now the end of my Summer Learning Journey!! Here is my reflection:

Which activity you enjoyed the most?

I really liked doing week 4 Rags to Riches. I loved making the Lego building on the left for my Dog Man cover! It was fun that I could do whatever I wanted.

Which activity you enjoyed the least?

I did not enjoy doing week 4: Getting Stronger because it was really hard to think of the bands that I liked. I like lots of music but don't always know who makes the music!

Three things that you learned while completing the programme:

1. I did not know that someone had landed a plane in the Hudson River. I really want to see the movie now.
2. I did not know there was a clothing shop called Twenty-Seven Names. It was interesting to read about brands in New Zealand
3.I did not know about the Aquabots. These sound really good for the environment because they could pick up trash in the water.

What changes/improvements you would make to the programme for next year?
I do not think that anything needs to be changed for next year. It was very interesting and not boring. I liked getting comments on my blog posts.

Summer Learning Journey = DONE!

If you were a kid at school would you gave done the summer learning journey?

Week 4: Fashion Forward

Twenty-Seven Names.

I had never heard of the clothing brand called Twenty-Seven Names. After looking tat the clothing I not surprised because I don't really wear dresses!!!

The brand was originally called Love Lies Bleeding. This is not a name I like because it sounds too dark and gruesome. They had to change the name because of copyright reasons. A company on the US already had this name and if they didn't change they might be sued! And they couldn't afford to be sued!

When the designers where brainstorm some new ideas they wrote a list of names of had supported them and there were 27 of them so they decided to name the brand Twenty-Seven Names.

I think Twenty-Seven Names is a better name than Love Lies Bleeding. I like that it supports the people who help them get their business started. I wonder if people know if they are one of the 27 names?

Do you think Twenty-Seven Names is a good name? Or did you like the original name better?

Week 4: Plot Points

My idea for a movie would be a Star Wars movie. I would call it Droids ( A Star Wars Story ). The mane characters would be R2 D2, C-3PO, BB-8 and D-O and the main villain would be IG-88 who is a bounty hunter droid.
The plot would be that R2 D2, C-3PO, BB-8 and D-O are being hunted down by IG-88 and they go to new undiscovered planets, in the Star Wars universe, to get away form IG-88. This is what IG-88 looks like by the way.

During the movie there would be big battles against the other droids and IG 88. There would be spectacular special effects. At the end of the movie the good droids destroy IG 88 and then carry on for other adventures.

What is your Favourite Star Wars move and why?

Week 3: Ministry of Inspiration

If I could join the Aquabots club would I?... yes. I would like to join them because I think the robots look cool. I like the way they were working as a team and a group. I like that too. I think that the aquabots would be good for getting rubbish off the ocean surface one day. These little robots could help clean up the environment.

This was a cool video. I wonder what other robot competitions there are in NZ?

Week 3: iMOKO

Ways that me and my family stay healthy are:
1. We eat healthy foods together as a family.
2. We exercise together such as running, biking and swimming. Sometimes as a family. Last night Dad and I did some exercise in the garage together. I ran on the treadmill and dad was on the exercise bike. Here is a photo that Mum took:

3. We get lot's of sleep. This is good for our brains and our bodies.
4. Talk to each other about our problems and support each other.
5. We have medicine when we need it and we go to our doctor.  I have an inhaler just in case!
6. We all have interests and we have relax / leisure time.

What do you do to keep healthy?

Week 3: Need for Speed

This is my Super Fast Vehicle

My car is made of carbon fibre because that is the lightest material and that will make it do really fast. The special features on my car are rocket boosters to make it go fast. My car will go well over the speed limit I think it will go 466kph. The people that might use my car will be a really skilled driver to test this car.

What would your fastest car look like and what features will it have?

Week 3: Through Careful Observation

Day and Night By MC Escher
THE AMAZING WORLD OF M. C. ESCHER

https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/jun/20/the-impossible-world-of-mc-escher#img-1

So I am looking at this picture and the first thing that I notice is two lots of birds. One set is black and one set is white. And they turn into squares which make the paddocks. There is also two rivers one is black and one is white. There is also two towns one is white and one is black. The left side is white and the right side is black. The two sides of the painting are mirror images. I don't get why the birds turn into paddocks. I don't understand what that means.

I had a look at more of MC Escher's work and they are a little bit like illusions.

What do you think of this artwork?

Week 3:Infulencers

If I had my own You Tube channel this is what it would be...

The first thing that I would do a video about would be gaming. I would do this because I like playing video games and I think they are so much fun. My videos would show how to play the game and show you what to do in it. The games I would talk about would be Minecraft, Skylanders, Sonic the Hedgehog and Pokemon. The audience for my channel would be kids and adults. I might have some friends who like video games as well on my channel and we would chat about the games. I think I would call my channel Williams Gaming.
I might also make videos to help kids handle challenges so they don't get too frustrated with them. I could talk about schools, friends and sports and things like that. Also having a growth mindset and being resilient.
I could also react to other people videos. I would say how much I liked them and what parts I enjoyed.

If you could make a you tube channel what would it be called? What would it be about and what would you do with it?

Week 2: Everyday Heroes

To help the people of Australia that have been effected by the fires we could:

1. Send them water to douse the flames.

2. Send care packages to the school effected by the fires. We could send food, water, pencils, books and stickers.

3. Send NZ fireman to Australia to help and give the Aussie firemen a rest.

4. Have a nationwide mufti day to raise money to send to the animal hospitals to help look after the koalas.

5. Send builders over when the fores are out to help people rebuild their houses.

This a photo of me and Phoebe holding a koala in a zoo in Australia a few years ago. I feel very sad about them being caught in the fires.

Would you take part in any of these ideas?

Week 2: Celebrate Diversity

Ainu People:

Facts:
1. The government in the 1800s put policies in place that meant the Ainu people were considered a dying culture.

2. Ainu people were forbidden to speak the language and were forced to speak Japanese and their land was turned into public land.

3. Today people are trying to save the Ainu culture especially their language, rituals, dance and music.

4. By the time the Olympics come to Japan in 2020 they will have built an Ainu Museum and a National Park.

The Maya People:

Facts:
1. 6 million Mayan people in the world living in countries such as Mexico, Guatemala and Belize.

2. 30 Languages with some common words such as sun, corn and mother.

3. Came up with the calendar system.

4. Built great cities in line with the sun, moon and sky.

Week 2: The right to vote

I believe that Jacinda Ardern should be the next women on the New Zealand $10 note.

Image result for jacinda ardern
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/104915752/wishes-flow-in-from-leaders-and-personalities-from-around-the-world-for-pm-jacinda-ardern-and-her-baby

The reasons that I believe she should be on the $10 note are:

1. She is the Prime Minister of NZ
2. She is New Zealand's youngest Prime Minister
3. She was the worlds youngest female head of a government
4. She was the second female head of government to have a baby while prime minister
5. After the Mosque Attacks in Christchurch she established new gun laws in NZ to help keep us safe
6. She is an inspirational leader in NZ

What do you think of my ideas?

Happy New Year!!
