Biography of a Deinonychus

The dinosaur that I have chosen is the Deinonychus.

Here are the facts that I found out:

It's name means 'terrible claw'.

They had long hooked claws on its hands. These helped them grab their prey and tear at the skin to get to the meat because just like the tyrannosaurs they were meat eaters.

The second toe on each of its feet had a huge hooked claw. They could flick this down like a knife to cut up what it had hunted.

It probably had feathers like other raptors. This helped people believe that birds descended from dinosaurs.

It was part of the raptor family.

It probably lived in North America. In 1931 they discovered fossils in Southern Montana.

They were hunters and fierce and lived about 110 million years ago. They were about the size of adult person.

They lived during the Mesozoic Era during the Cretaceous Period.

It had about 60 teeth.

Here is a picture of Deinonychus:

I love dinosaurs. Some of my other favourite dinosaurs are Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, Ankylosaurs and T-rex! Do you like dinosaurs? What is your favourite dinosaur?

Life in Lockdown.

Lockdown has been pretty good so far at my house. I have been chilling most of the time but I have been doing some reading. I am reading a book called "Alex Rider: Stormbreaker" by Anthony Horowitz. It's great so far and really exciting. It has lots of references to my world for example Nintendo, PlayStation and Burger King. I recommend this book to kids my age who like action and stuff.

I have been also training for the cross country by running on the treadmill. This morning I ran 3.1km. The good thing is there is a TV in front of it that I can watch Netflix on.It makes running much easier. I never look forward to doing it but I feel good once it is done!

I've been also doing some homework. A few boxes of steps each day, some Protoech maths and some IXL too!

We have have been doing lots of family bubble walks with my dog Jack but these last two its just been rain, rain, rain! Now I'm nervous that its going to flood if this keeps going!

Some nights we play this card game called Skip-Bo. You have to put the cards in order from 1 - 12. But there are also Skip-Bo cards which can be any number. My dad always wins but I can beat mum.

Oh and one morning even watched a movie in mum and dads bed. We watched High School Musical. If you like Disney and musicals then this is a movie for you. It's on Disney plus.

So that's the story of my lock down so far. I really miss my Granny and Poppy but we get to skype with them and I know not seeing them is keeping them well!

How is your lockdown going? Have you done anything interesting? and what is one thing you want to do when lockdown is finished... other than going back to school of course!!!!

Mum made us all face masks. This is mine.

Myths and legends

For our reading this week we have been learning about Myths and legends. If you don't know what a myth or legend is a myth is something that people don't really know if it exists like Bigfoot he is a Myth if you did not know that. And a legend could be like some thing that has been past down from generations and have been told by other people. For our reading task we had to make a timeline of a Maori Legend called Kupe's travels around Aotearoa and here is what my timeline looks like.
So that is it for this blog sorry if you can't read the words on the timeline.

Do you know of any Myths or legends.

Maths blog

This week for Maths we have been leaning how to use Rounding and Compensating. I have not figured out how to do it yet but other people have helped me do it which is nice. We had to make a poster about this and here is what it looks like. So these are the problems I have done one uses Rounding and Compensating and the other one uses Place value. I really hope that you have enjoyed this blog and I hope you like my poster.
Do you know how to do Rounding and Compensating or do you not Know how.

How to write a good Biography

This week for writing we have bean learning how to write a good Biography. We learnt that there are 2 type of biography, Biography and Autobiography. Biography would be about someone else while Autobiography would be about yourself. For our writing task we had to make a slide about how to write a good Biography. To make a good Biography you need to have a Topic sentence, a Detail sentence and an Example sentence. That is all I have today I will be writing the next one soon.

Communication Blog

Hi I'm back doing a Blog about communication. Communication is really important in a group if we didn't have communication it wouldn't go well. An example is that is this week one person in our group had to look at a cross and we needed to make the cross out of Multi link cubs we didn't finish it by the way. I think it hatpin because communication was low maybe. Well that is all I have today I'm looking forward to writing the next Blog.

Are you great with communicating.

Creativity task

Hi.
I hope you had a great week.
This week my blog is about creativity.

I am a innovative thinker because I like to think about different ways about how things could work. I like to talk and imagine different ideas and talk about if they would work or not.

The creative thinking skills that I have are that I am innovative and that I have a great immigration. A example of this would be in this blog from over summer. It shows that I am creative because I made a great racing car. It all came from my imagination and not from anywhere else.

The creative skills that I need to work on are making some of my ideas more realistic. Because sometimes my ideas are not real and they would be impossible to do!

The creative thinking that I brought to my group for PBL this time were when were brainstorming I came up with an idea to do an origami game where we all made any kind of origami animal shapes. I got this idea from an origami book i have. But we settled on another idea. For the new idea I helped to make the prototype.

Do you think you're a creative and innovative thinker?
