I am a student at St Francis of Assisi Catholic School. I am in Year 7 and my teacher is Miss Parker. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Rubbish Tour Builder
Rubbish Tour Builder
This term we are trying to find ways to stop pollution. So this link will take you to my tour builder to the most polluted places in the world. It also has a glacier in New Zealand that is melting because of climate change. A glacier is a frozen river. I feel very bad for the places on the tour and I think they should find better ways to deal with their problems. The rubbish patch makes me feel a bit angry because I love the ocean. We should recycle the plastic and stop using single use plastic because that's another problem for our environment.
What would you do to save our world of these problems?

The Environment
This term we have been learning about problems in our environment. Some of these problems are pollution, global warming, trees being cut down, too much greenhouse gases and floods.
This term we will be looking at ways we can reduce, reuse and recycle. We have had 2 parents in to talk to us about ways they are protecting the environment. The first speaker was Charlies mum who made stainless steel cups and straws and other items that can be reused. The second parent worked at Horncastle arena and they ditched single use cups and now use different sorts of cups.
I went home and spoke to my mum and we discussed how we look after the environment at home. Some things we do are recycle, Solar energy, we try not to buy plastic and dad bikes to work. Mum said we should do more!!

Cross Country
On Thursday we went to Walter park to do cross country we had to run two laps. We had to wait on a tarpaulin it took a very long time before our run. And then it was time for my run. At the start I was already tired and I stopped a couple of times but I was still going. And people from my school were cheering us on and I sprinted to the finish line I don't know what place I got but the cross country was really fun.
How far would you run and how many laps would you do?

A Touch of kindness
PBL - Term 1
This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about kindness and the big question was:
How can we build community through our actions?
How can we build community through our actions?
First, we explored some collaborative activities and discussed how we could include kindness and
build a sense of community through our actions at camp. Next, we were organised into groups where
we had to unpack the above question. In our groups we considered how we could spread community
and kindness through our entire school community. We decided that we would offer something that was
free and would make others happy.

We created an action plan and we originally thought we were going to create posters and run
a whole school clean up because we thought it was needed. But we changed our minds
because too many groups were doing the same thing so we had to change. I was fine with it.

Reflection:
For our final product our group Decided to run a touch for the year 3 4's.
How did our action build a sense of community in the school. We
I contributed by helping the kids in the game and playing with them.
I think the PBL might impact on others by making them happy.

The market day
This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?
First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance M&Ms for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because the legs were straws and they were very strong
In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.
Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.
My team made disappearing colour spinners.
Reflection
My highlight from this PBL was… making the spinners. Because I got to colour in some of them.
Next time I would not change anything because it can still spin with the rubberband.

Colour Spinner
In the Tumu hub we are making disappearing colour spinners for the market day. We are asking a driving question,''how can we use a STEAM approach to make a marketable product?' To make a disappearing colour spinner you will need a piece of cardboard and a piece of string and scissors and colouring markers and a sharpie. To build a disappearing colour spinner you will need to draw a circle on the cardboard, cut out the circle. Then add some colour then poke 2 holes in the circle, then you put the string in 2 holes. You tie the end of one end of the string.
So far our group has made quite a few of them.

Book Character Day
Last Tuesday we had to dress up as book characters. I dressed up as Tom Gates. I chose Tom Gates because he books are cool and I recommend that you check them out. I wore a white t shirt with Dude 3 on it. Dude 3 is the name of a band that Tom likes. And also his friend likes it too. Other kids had cool costumes on too for example Gio dressed up as spider-man and Cory dressed up as Harry Potter. Next year I want to dress up as spider-man or Blue from Jurassic World.
Here is a photo of me. What do you think of my costume?
