Last week we went swimming at Graham Condon. We went on a bus to get to the pool. We had buddies. My budy was called Daniel. When we got to the pool we got changed into our togs. Then we went to the pools and got in. Sometimes we stared at the deep end and sometimes we stared at the shallow end. On Wednesday we did water safety. We wore life jackets and no goggles. Then on Thursday they taught us how to be safe on a boat which was very short. Then on Friday we went swimming in our pyjamas. They were very heavy when we got into the pool. Then we had to take them off in the pool. It was pretty easy. Then we did some more lessons. Then we got out of the pool, went into the changing rooms and got changed. Then we got back on the bus and went back to school.
Over the two weeks of swimming I learnt some new stuff for example a new way of swimming in a river. You put your legs at the front and make circles with your arms in the water. It was fun. I was proud of how many lengths I swam. My next step is to work on diving!
How were your swimming lessons? What was your favourite part?
I am a student at St Francis of Assisi Catholic School. I am in Year 7 and my teacher is Miss Parker. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Respect
Respect is being kind to others.
Respect on the playground is not being men to other people.
Respect is not talking when your teacher is talking.
Respect is being silent while people are giving their speech.
Respect in church is being silent and not being disrespectful.
Respect is understanding that others might believe in different things.
In school we are trying to be respectful because it helps everyone learn better.
This week I am going to try and be respectful by not being distracted and concentrating when people are talking.
What does respect mean to you?

Maui Slows the Sun
In reading I have been wondering….
How can I deepen my understanding of what I have read through applying my own ideas to the story.
I read the story….. Maui slows the Sun
It was about…..Maui and other people and they were on a mission to try and slow down the sun because it was going too fast and the day was too short and they couldn't do their activities for example fishing.
We then had to create a contraption to help Maui slow the sun
This was my idea…. Make a contraption that shoots out hooks that grab the sun and hang on to it tightly so that it wouldn't escape.Ropes would be attached to the hooks and people would hang on the ropes
I chose to do this because….
It might be helpful because it would be easier to use. This is kind of like daylight savings.

math evidence
In maths I created a drawing that teaches you place value.
Place value is 1s, 10s, and hundreds and thousands etc....
I did my drawing with Gio and we did it for maths week.
It had different shapes for the 1s, 10s and hundreds and thousands column.
Our drawing made it easier for you to learn place value.
Have a look at our work:

Do you know place value and does this help you learn it?

In Summertime we go Santa Parades and get i my photo taken with Santa. We go to the beach a lot. my favourite beach is Spencer Park. We also go to my grandparents holiday house at Rakaia Huts. We put up a Christmas Tree and an advent calendar. Sometimes we have a Christmas party. On Christmas day Granny, Poppy, Ben, Alice, Aunty Emma and Uncle Matthew, Lee and my family all spend the day together. We go to Christmas in the park too.
Our family values truth, love, family, faith and happiness.

NED Show
On Wednesday we had a show called The Ned Show. NED stands for Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best. At the start of the show the person told what happened when they were coming to our school. It was all about aliens, a circus, a plane and space.
She did tricks with a yoyo one of them were called around the world and then she made pictures with the string. Then some people came up from the audience and told them what they wanted to be champions of. I want to be a champion of Math.
I liked the show very much and it taught me that if i am kind to other people they will be kind to me.
What would you be a champion of?
