Week 2: School Strike for Climate

Three things that I have learned from https://www.schoolstrike4climate.com/about is:
1. School children in Australia and across the world are having school strikes to make people aware of climate change.
2. Australia's Government want to build a huge coal mine called Adani. The school students are fighting for this not to happen.
3. They are striking every Friday and are sacrificing their education to help people be aware of climate change and show that it is a threat to our planet.

This year we gave some sustainable Christmas presents to our families. We made beeswax sandwich wraps and gave metal reusable straws too.
Here is a picture of them:

What do you do that helps prevent climate change?

PS Happy New Year From William !!!

Week 2: Playing Favourites

These are my FAVOURITE things to do:

1. Biking: I love going biking with my Dad. Its fun and exhausting. One day we rode all the way to the beach. When we got home I felt like a bag of flesh!!!

 2. Swimming: I love swimming because I like the feeling of floating in water and I love jumping into the pools. This is a photo from Hanmer. I love swimming and sliding here! Have you been to Hanmer? I haven't been on the new slide yet!

3. Skiing: I like skiing because you can do lots of cool slidey turns. I am quite good at it now but I get very numb toes. This photo was taken at Mt Hutt.

4. Family Time! This is my Dad and sister and me! My Mum took the photo. This was at Christmas. Dad is wearing a blueberry bubble suit. He looks funny but we all had a go! I love doing crazy things with my family.

5. Running: I like running because it makes me fit and strong. I can now run 5km on the treadmill. This video is taken in the garage at home. I can watch TV while I run.

Week 1: Against the odds

Three things that I treasure are:

1. My Drum Kit: I treasure this because I have always wanted to play the drums and now I have a set and I have lessons. It's very fun and a good challenge.

2. My Dogman Books: These are my favourite books. they are very funny and have great characters. And when I first discovered them I was proud that I could read a book so thick all by myself.

3. My dog Jack: I think that Jack is a cute dog and I like giving him cuddles and pat's. He is always so happy to see me and he makes me smile.

Here is a photo of what Jack looks like in his Christmas PJs!!

Do you have any pets that you treasure?

Week1: Whats in a name?

My name is William Frederick Benjamin Inwood.
I like my name but if I had to change it I would change it to:

FRANCIS ARMSTRONG LUKE INWOOD

Francis because I got to a school that is named after St Francis of Assisi. He was a kind man who cared for animals and I love animals.

Armstrong after Neil Armstrong who was the first man on the moon. I would really love to go to space one day.

Luke because of Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. I really like these movies and he always fights for good.

Inwood because that is my family name and I would not change that.

What would you change your name to or would you keep your current name?

Week 1: Rugby Superstars

If I had superpowers for a day they would be:

1. Super speed - I would have this because I like running and would love to be super fast. What I would do with super speed is get all my jobs done super fast and then I would run up and down Spencer Park Beach really fast and pick up all the rubbish!

2. Invisibility - I would have this because I could get away with so much. What I would do with it is sneak into NASA and have a look at the space shuttles. I would also do a lot of good deeds and no one would know it was me.

3. Super smarts - I would love this because I find maths a little bit hard. I would get all my maths done super fast and then I would find a cure for the measles outbreak in Samoa.

My favourite superhero is Spiderman. Who is yours?

Week 1: Miracle on the Hudson

So...... one time that I didn't' give up and was brave to keep trying was when one summer went to a pool in Timaru. There was a very hard obstacle course thing in the main pool. The first obstacle was a rope swing. I had never done one before so it was very hard. The rope was a bit wet and it was hard to pull myself up. I didn't think I was strong enough. I kept trying but I still couldn't do it and that meant that I couldn't do the rest of the inflatable. Lots of people tried to help me but I just couldn't do it!! When we left the pool I felt sad because I couldn't do it!
Then the next year we came back and the same inflatable was there. I was thinking to myself "I'm going to do it!!" I lined up with the other kids and tried a couple of times but I still couldn't do it. Then I tried one more time. I tried to get a really good swing. I pulled up my legs and managed to get my legs around the inflatable pole on the other side. I pushed myself off and pulled myself up. I was very excited that I could do it. I had found the technique that helped me be successful.

I know this isn't as brave as landing a plane on the Hudson River but it was still pretty cool though!
What is something that you have had to try lots of times to be successful at? Thank goodness that Sully was successful first time!!

Week 1: Setting Sail

Today I am going to go sailing. I am going to be sailing for 3 weeks! This is the food that I am going to be packing to go sailing and why I would take them:

1. Marmite - Marmite is my favourite spread. It comes from New Zealand and I am proud of that.
2. Bread - I love sandwiches - especially Marmite ones.
3. Apples - They are good for you and give you energy.
4. Wine Gums - Just because they are delicious.
5. Pre cooked steak - Good for me and I could also have streak sandwiches.
6. Cereal - Milo Cereal - yummy breakfast.
7. Milk - for my cereal. I would tie it to the back of the canoe and drag it in the water to keep it cold.
8. Chips - Ready Salted - Yummy and good to share. I had better take a rubbish bag too.
